Shelley Duncan '92:

Shelley Duncan '92, this year's Accounting Alumnus of the Year,has been a Partner in Deloitte's Technology Media & Telecommunications practice for nearly ten years.  With over twenty years of experience advising companies, Shelley has significant experience in software revenue recognition, complex equity instruments, initial public offerings, mergers and acquisitions, and restructurings.


Shelley works with large multinational clients in the technology and consumer products industries and is a member of Deloitte's International Financial Reporting Standards team. She is a national specialist in software revenue recognition and leads the software sector in Deloitte's New England Technology practice. Shelley also has led Deloitte's National Software Affinity Group. And she works with the national office to ensure that the firm's auditors maintain independence in their relations with clients.


Shelley joined Deloitte after graduating from Isenberg in 1992 and completing an internship with the firm. In 1995, she began three years as a staff accountant with the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission in Washington. At the SEC she reviewed registration statements, proxy solicitation materials, and other compliance filings, specializing in the technology, biotech, and communications industries. After the SEC, she spent a year as the Director of Finance at a venture-backed Internet start-up company before rejoining Deloitte in 1999.


"As a student, I received a great professional start in Isenberg's accounting program," Shelley recalls.  "Its culture was inclusive, like a family. Professors like Asebrook and Simpson cared deeply about students becoming successful. Over the years, I've often returned to Isenberg to recruit because the program has some of the best students in the market," she continues. "I always get excited and motivated when I return to campus.


"I am proud to work in a profession known for its flexibility toward women with families and that offers women and men the same opportunities to contribute," she observed.  Shelley lives in Medfield with her husband, Jay and their six children.
