Course Transfers
The Part-Time and Online MBA Program allows you to transfer a maximum of 6 credits towards your MBA degree. There are two ways you can use previous graduate coursework towards your Isenberg MBA:
Credits Earned As a Non-degree Student
As a non-degree student (not yet formally accepted in the program), you can take a maximum of 6 credits in the Part-Time MBA program. Upon matriculation (formal acceptance in the program), those non-degree credits taken within three years of acceptance with a grade of B or better will be transferred to your graduate transcript within 2 semesters of being formally accepted.
Credits Earned From Another Institution
If you earned graduate level credit from another accredited institution, and those credits were not used to satisfy another degree they may be eligible for transfer towards the Part-Time MBA degree providing that the course curriculum mirrors our program, you earned a grade of "B" or better, and course(s) have been taken within three years of acceptance into the Part-Time MBA Program.
In order for courses to be considered for transfer you must send a complete course description, course syllabus, official transcript for each course you want considered for transfer to gradprog@som.umass.edu or to:
Graduate Programs Office
305 Isenberg School of Management
University of Massachusetts Amherst
121 Presidents Drive
Amherst, MA 01003
Please indicate which core course(s) or elective course you wish to transfer and which Part-Time MBA course you feel most closely mirrors the course. The information provided will be reviewed by the Associate Dean and once a decision is made, you will be contacted by a member of the Student Support Services Team.
Course Waivers
A maximum of 6 core course credits may be waived in the Part-Time MBA Program but students must satisfy the program's total 37 credit-hour requirement by substituting an appropriate number of elective credits for each course waiver granted. Prior coursework used to waive core courses must be no more than three years old, taken at an accredited institution and received a grade of "B" or better.
In order to pursue a course waiver, you must send a complete syllabus, course description, and transcript of your prior course to gradprog@som.umass.edu or to:
Graduate Programs Office
305 Isenberg School of Management
University of Massachusetts
121 Presidents Drive
Amherst, MA 01003
Please indicate which core courses you are requesting a waiver. If you would like to request a waiver based on professional certification such as a CPA, fax a copy of your certificate to the Graduate Programs Office at
(413) 577-2234.
NOTE: Certified Public Accountants (CPA) are waived from MGMT-630 Accounting for Decision Making upon receipt of Certification.
