Funding Opportunities

Assistantships/Financial Aid

Over 80% of our MBA students receive full assistantships covering tuition, fees, comprehensive health and dental insurance and providing a stipend. Estimated cost for the program for those with an Assistantship for two years, based on 2007-2008, is approximately $3,000. Graduate Student Assistants for the 2007-2008 academic year receive an annual stipend totaling approximately $7,200. Assistantships are an exceptional financial benefit but also allows our MBA students to gain skills outside the classroom which play an integral part in learning at Isenberg.

Fellowships and scholarships for academic achievement and entrepreneurial potential are also awarded to extraordinary candidates. (recent assistantship examples)

Sample Assistantships

  • Isenberg Scholars: Each year the Isenberg School awards more than seven Eugene M. Isenberg scholars, who combine science, management, and technology in their graduate studies. Selected by Isenberg Professors Soren Bisgaard (Isenberg School of Management) and Michael Malone (College of Engineering), the Isenberg Scholars exemplify Mr. Isenberg’s vision of exceptional students who thrive in an interdisciplinary university environment.
  • Gaunt Scholars: An active member of the Isenberg School of Management Advisory Council, Mr. David Gaunt provides full-assistantship support to four MBA students each year. To receive a Gaunt Scholarship, applicants must demonstrate significant academic achievement and interest in finance and entrepreneurship. Gaunt scholars have gone on to distinguished careers in the New York financial community and other world financial centers.
  • Flavin Fellowships: Each year, the Isenberg School awards Flavin Fellowships to students on the basis of strong academic ability as demonstrated by undergraduate grades and GMAT scores, as well as demonstrated entrepreneurial interest. Flavin Fellows work with Professor James Theroux, the award winning Flavin Professor of Entrepreneurship.
  • Center for Student Business The Isenberg School of Management works with the UMass Center for Student Business to fund a special grad assistantship. This two year assistantship is designed to provide the student with practical experience managing a group of undergraduate business consultants as well as provide supervision and guidance to nine student run businesses.

    This demanding but rewarding position provides a forum in which to explore the university and the diversity of its undergraduate community

  • Other Assistantships: Students have also worked on research projects with Professor Alan Robinson, known for his writing and research in Corporate Creativity;
    Human Resources Professor Melissa Barringer on employee compensation and other human resources issues;
    Professor Thomas Schneeweis, director of the Center
    for International Securities and Derivatives Markets
    ;
    Marketing Professor Thomas Brashear-Alejandro on sales management and business-to-business marketing.
